How to Get Your Dog to Pay Attention
Before you begin on a training lesson, you must train your dog to pay attention to you. If you don’t conduct attention exercises with your dog, she may lose focus during the training session. Dog owners should pick a praise that is used with the clicker. Examples of marker words that you can use include Yes!, and Good Boy!
You should perform the training in a place that has the least distractions, such as in your house, or a quiet room in the house. After that, you must squat down and look at the dog at eye level. Next, you should click the clicker and say the marker word.
When your dog looks at you, you can reward him with a dog treat. You should practice this for a few times until your dog knows how to pay attention to you. As the dog progresses, you can call her name.
If the dog responds, you can click and reward her with a treat. Later, you can start to train the dog in a place that has more distraction such as the park.
